The Republicans are spending the taxpayers money because they were voted for by the majority of the people. Thus, vote wisely in the next election.

ok. Let's talk truths:
Truth 1: people can be rude. Actually, I might have said something in your other question that would have been borderline rude. In a way though, think of it as a possible good thing. People, in general, wish to see good communication skills. So if you do have a disability, you should probably go ahead and put the disclaimer in front of your question. That should shush up most people (including me!)
Truth 2: somebody knocked the VA health system. That is unfortunate, because both my wife and myself are vets, and we used a VA hospital for prenatal care, and they paid for the birth of our second daughter in a local hospital. So, if you havn't used a VA facility, you have no right to bash it.
Truth 3: people voted the Republicans into power because they are scared. They are scared to give gays the right to marriage, they are scared that a "liberal" can manage the country. If Clinton would have kept it in his pants, he would have gone down as the greatest American president ever. I just don't understand how the conservatives can bash everything he did in office. He built a surplus (without passing the buck to the states, whoever said that was strangely off course). And would that same person claim that Bush is NOT passing expenses off to states? What about NCLB? What about head start? What about a lot of things for the citizens?
Truth 4: I'm afraid we are close to the point of no return. With the crisis in the Middle East, China, N. Korea, global warming (well, if you are Republican you don't believe that that is an issue!), and the sad state of American affairs, including the worse global image that we have had probably ever. It will be many years before foreigners trust us again. Thank you Bush! Plus, it will be many years before we have money in the bank again. Thank you Bush!
Truth 5: take care, and don't be offended by rude people!! It's not just you, they can be rude to anyone and feel good about themselves!

You're pretty damn ignorant yourself, eh?
Republicans don't invest in corporations, period. They invest in corporations because there happens to be an school of economic thought that believes in the strength and benefit of a strong and free capitalist market. That is, if corporations were free to compete with each other, the customers and employees will be better off because free and fair competition will ensure fair prices (including the price of labour). I won't go into the details, but considering whole nations have been built on this prospect, I think it's pretty solid.
It also doesn't work. This is what is called a "trickle-down" economy. Give the money to the top guys and they will invest it in their businesses, leading to higher employment, more disposable income, etc, etc.
But guess what? The opposite -- also something some Republicans root for -- doesn't work either. The idea of taxing individuals less, with the trade-off (and choice!) of taking care of certain things, like health care and education.
So, we've got two opposite ways of thinking that aren't foolproof. There is also the socialist/welfare state to consider. Let's look at France, and to a lesser extent, Canada. France has attracted tens of thousands of immigrants, bolstered by the bright prospects of free health care, child care, majorly subsidized education, but along with that comes a "guarantee" of working only 35 hours a week -- which has actually sprung a black market for labour for people looking to be able to make ends meet. Canada has the universal health care, along with tremendous line-ups and patients who need lifesaving bypass surgeries, but oops! die before their appointment SIX MONTHS away.
Consider the way Republicans think: We'll give you more disposable income (by taxing you less) so you can CHOOSE where your kid goes to school, be able to take care of your own elderly parents/mentally challenged brother, decide who watches your little girl while you're at work, and plan whether to have your surgery here or in India for 60% less. Oh wait, there's also the long-term effects to consider. Like when people have to pay for their own surgery, they tend to think twice about the double cheeseburger or "forgetting" to wear sunscreen. Or maybe (here's the capitalist thing again) ... the fact that when you realize no one's going to be there for you when you're retired, you start saving NOW in your early twenties by investing regularly so you can take care of as much of your own expenses as possible.
I get that some social services are necessary -- I have no problem paying taxes for our roads or the library system or the city pools for kids I haven't got yet (or can't use because I don't know how to swm), but I gotta tell ya: I have no interest in paying for my boyfriend's aunt's acrylic nails (she's been collecting welfare for 14 years) or the drug addict that needs a warm bed and food so he can save his dollars for the next high.
I do not want to live in an entitled society. That's why I live here and vote the way I do. I have no interest in carrying anyone but my own. Because I believe that the individual can make a difference, but before you run to Africa et al, consider the troubles in your own family, then your own community, etc.
Added Later:
Just noticed another unconverted believer in Global Warming. The Earth is warming in some places and cooling in others. This is why President Bush and PM Harper are using the term "Climate Change." Please read "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton (heavily researched and referenced) because we all need to have an unbiased opinion and check the link below for quicker convincing. There are tons of reasons we should curb pollution: our kids will need the earth, it's wrong to so obviously destroy our home, quality of life issues, but it is also wrong to lie to people in order to get them to do something. It has been proven that human activities have no impact on climate change. We impact our environment, definitely, but our activities have no proven bearing on the Earth. For example, if our increased Carbon Monoxide did affect the Earth, it would cool the atmosphere not warm it. (neither of which it does, by the way). So check out the link and the book, and then decide for yourselves to stop polluting for the future of the planet, not because of insidious lies that sell more newspapers.
