a bunch of cars going in a circle. whoop-de-do.

yes, i know they are not circles, they are more like ovals. so sorry, i guess that makes my entire question meaningless.

yes, i have tried watching a race. i went into a trance-like state. i think my life was in danger, but a friend quickly dumped water on my head and changed the channel to the "watch paint dry" network. god bless him.

For me...it's the thrill of watching the power and the speed...I especially love the accidents...well as long as no one gets hurt.

FIRST OF ALL NONE OF THE TRACKS ARE CIRCLES! They are OVALS! And there are two road courses. Well, I like it b/c I find it fun to watch & very interesting, not everyone feels that way. There's a lot to the sport, such as pit strategy. Some races can either be won or lost in the pits. If a member of the pit crew makes a mistake during a pit stop it can be very costly. Plus they drive 200 miles per hour! Jeez! :) Have you ever tried WATCHING a race?? If not, maybe you should. Then your opinion might change. GO NASCAR!!!!!!!! :)

Just like most other sports.
Drivers compete for points, they earn so many points for winning a race depreciating by 5 for each position behind.
After several races they have what they call the race for the chase, where the top 10 drivers points are adjusted and they are the only 10 drivers to get a chance to win the cup.
At this point there are now 2 races going on, the race for the cup and the race for 11th place in points which rewards a 1 million dollar prize.
It is cool to watch your favorite driver each week and see how he does, how the race changes in pit stops etc.
Well I like it.

Well apparently you've not watched much I never miss a race and I have yet to see them race in a circle. Now they do race on ovals quite often and even sometimes race on a road course.
Next time before you start griping about something you know nothing about do a little research.

The wrecks... Seriously though. Pick a driver, bet some $$ with a friend. Someone will spin out your driver or he'll wreck, then you have a personal stake in what is happening, before long bets or no bets he is YOUR driver. Kind of like football, ppl take it seriously when the Quarter Back gets sacked.. same basic principal. Circles at 200 mph are kick a$$...

I believe a whole bunch of those NASCAR fans are just plane blood thirsty.. lots of crashes in those races,,,they all stand up, cheer, scream when there is a wreck. Having a driver from your home town or as a favorite gives a person something to root for. Like myself, I raced motoX for many years and just plane RACING gets in the blood. Drag, Horse, Auto, Bikes ect...
Has something to do with being a Adrenalin junkey.

I like Nascar because i can identify the vehicle I drive to work everyday with one that is driving 150 mph on the track and might win the race. For lack of a better way to describe it, I also like the soap opera antics by all involved in racing. There's always a story to follow for me.

I've asked myself the same question, and only came up with one answer. Nascar is just another sport. Everyone, by nature, is competitive, and therefore, people watch nascar to compete against others who might have a different opinion of which driver is the best.

i never like nascar untill i i got married. my husband is a big nascar fan. the great part is waiting for the big one. wreck that is. and hope and pray it aint your man. but the best part is getting a group of friends where each one likes some one different and dog the hell out of them and taunt them about their guy. good clean fun. and you dont have to be a redneck to enjoy over 200 mph. i wish we could all drive that fast

The speed, you would think whoop-de-do if you were in a car with 42 other cars going 200 mph. You would probably pee in your pants!
