Since you are a Yahoo user, why not try:

http://realestate.yahoo.com/

You can also try Craigslist at:

http://www.craigslist.org/about/cities.html

Another option is to try this site run by e-bay:

http://www.rent.com/

Look for "rent to own" options at the last site.

Good luck with your search.

Google MLS and your city name and you will come up with sites that you can search. I don't know if you will be able to find a house for that price (or at least in my area... then again, I live in NYC), however, you should look into talking to an agent about available co-operatives in the area. They tend to have a lower asking price because you're actually investing in shares of the property as opposed to the property itself. For most co-ops you need 20% down, good credit, and a income to expense ratio of 3:1 (your monthly expenses can not exceed 33% of your monthly income). The application for them, though, are a real b****, so if you don't have patience for paperwork... not a good choice!

An example of the savings... my boyfriend and I just purchased a 2BR co-op for $183,000 in the NY/NJ Metro area, which is a steal. For a comparable 2BR in the area, if it were a condo, would be about $375,000.

Search the MLS (Multiple Listing Service), this is the comprehensive real estate listings used by Real Estate agents. You can google it or access it through broker websites such as ziprealty.com
