I love doing crafts, and want to get back heavily into doing projects. I just love the calmness that it brings to my life. However, I will be the first to admit that I'm far from professional-looking. Some people might be ok with them as presents, but I don't think I could get away with it to everyone. Anyone have any ideas on what I can do with them after I'm done? I like doing ceramics, painting pottery (which I thought of painting and putting an herb in it as a present), painting wood things (like jewelry boxes that you get at Michaels, etc), suncatchers, bead work... I'm just afraid my husband is going to say "And what are you going to do with that when you are done?!" ...and I won't have an answer for him! Help!

I can do a good job on crafts, but I'm not too sure it is re-purchase-from-someone-with-taste worthy. ;-)

Donate them to nursing homes and hospitals and retirement centers - You get a ton of practice and at the same time brighten the lives of many people who may otherwise be forgotten - they treasure a handmade gift because they know your time went into creating it -

Maybe you will get friendly enough that you can organize craft days with some of the retirement residents - Your projects become even more theraputic and you are filling your hands with good deeds......you can never have too many of those

Did you ever see the commercial on tv where the person posts up a green volkswagon for sale and the friend says, "who would ever buy that?" and on the other end of a computer is some guy in green pants, green room, everything green and he sees the green volkswagon and is psyched to buy it? I would bet the same holds true of your crafts that you think don't look professional. That said, you might want to take a spin with your products on ebay. Someone out there would likely appreciate your work and if you sell anything, then your husband might really have a new outlook on your crafting. I recently saw handmade envelopes and cards made on ebay for sale and it was something like 6 cards and envelopes for $15 - almost as expensive as a stationery store! So ebay might be a first stop. Another place you might be well received is a local craft show - many of which are sponsored and put on by local churches. Lastly, and not an exact answer to your question, but have you ever considered hosting a crafting "class" - there's a big need for this in places like retirement homes, and where children have problems with parents - grief centers and the like. I know of a recent 'class' in NYC after the world trade center disaster, where crafting classes were being held with children that lost a parent. Anyway, I hope this helps.

You could make sure that you do crafts that are useful in some way and find a good charity to donate them to. A group of us used to crochet large afghan squares and donate them to a local nursing home. The people there loved to pick out their new lap blankets. I'm sure you could find a similar home for your crafts if you try.

You said something about ceramics. How about painting on ceramic mugs & giving them to the nursing home patients? You could paint flowers or trees for the women and sports themes or hobby related for the men. The boxes you paint would work well for this too. They could be treasure boxes for small momentos. These people would also love a splash of color at their windows with your suncatchers.

Go and talk to people at these centers and see if there is one that would allow you to do this. Not all of them will. Good luck with your hobby and I hope it will brighten someone else's day too.

If your husband still doesn't like the idea, inform him that this will make your materials tax deductable. lol That should turn him around.

Open a booth in a mini-mall.
Sell them at a flea market.
Take some to work.
Give them to a charity to sell as a fundraiser.

People are crazy. They'll by anything. Don't give us too much credit : )

Donate them to a children's home or a shelter. I'm sure they'd love to get them.
