To me, a nerd is an intellectual bent who slavishly devotes him or herself to various academic/intellectual pursuits and tends to know a lot. A geek, on the other hand, can be of average intelligence who knows a lot about a specialized subject matter (i.e. StarTrek, computers, etc.). I don't consider myself a geek, but I do consider myself somewhat a nerd (well, I don't but others do). Nerds tend to have my personality type (INTP), my IQ, and other attributes like knowledge on various subjects and pursue knowledge for the sake of knowledge not just for a practical application. We look for possibilities not just be embedied in the cold hard facts. We are very unconventional. Nerds are not the type that comes from "Revenge of Nerds" and other ghastly stereotypes. Hell, I am like a lot of people my age: I drink, party, have a good time, etc. So, its hard to pinpoint. :-)

I've always heard that a nerd and a geek are two different things.
My view is that the nerd is the shy version of a geek. The true geek is beyond the range of human feeling and just is what he is.
That's why they could make a movie like "Revenge of the Nerds" - because nerds have feelings.
But there will never be a "Revenge of the Geeks" movie because geeks are too geeky to even care about things like revenge.

Defining yourself or any one else as a Nerd or a geek is just y rediculous. The world we live in is to blame for the current definition of every day people by what they enjoy or have a basic defenition. Honestly open your eyes and look at some of the shows on TV (especially the Diseny channel) they try to support diversity but then go and contradict themselves by airing show that have characters acting more important than the smart kid! The entire planet is becoming becoming a group of narciacistic ninnies who live their lives trying to be in the "popular clique".

A nerd or a geek is someone who is into one thing that they know more about it than any one person should know about any 1 thing. Then they are either obsessed with to the point of becoming unsocialized, or they only discuss that thing til no one wants to socialize with them.
Yes, I am a nerd about books and other wordy entertainments.

Anyone who spends more than half of the time they're awake on the computer.
Even though I only sleep about 6 hours a day, I'm definitely a nerd.
