Puerto Rico is a territory. They don't pay the same taxes and are not represented like a state. They have not gone through the process to actually join the US and so are not part of the country.They are treated similar to your best friend when they stayed over at your house.

Go back to school. Puerto Rico is not part of the US...it is associated with which is different! . Puerto Rico is a spanish speaking latin nation.

Puerto Rico's national basketball team also defeated the USA dream team in the World Olympics in Athens 2004.

ok although Puerto Rico is a territory of the US it isn't exactly the same as the US. They don't have to pay the same taxes as us and they do not have voting rights (they can't vote for the US president), they have their own form of government.
