I don't get rap, I think its gross and degrading. And yet people listen to it like its nothing. I think its wrong. If you listen to it, why do you? If you don't, why do you THINK people do?

Rap is poetry. Great Hip Hop Artists are poets in their use of literary elements.
Rap is also a business and part of the larger Record industry business. Like other businesses, they are not immune from adopting adult, sexual, degrading, violent themes in order to sell. Those rappers are leeches of the art form and very popular! So the average person that is unconnected to the culture sees this popular "sell out" and assumes THAT is Hip Hop. These are executive decisions, not artistic decisions.
No one blames ford, herbal essence, axe, MGM Studios, John Woo and other companies for using sexual, idiotic, violent themes.
Personally, I think some rap should only be sold in porn stores.

I think rap music has really changed over the years and once upon a time is wasn't degrading. But it was a voice. Now-a-days like almost anything it has been taken too far. The message is not realistic but entertainment, yet for whom? But a lot of young people don't know the difference and think what they are listening to is ok. But be thankful we have so many genres of music so when you're not a fan of one thing, you have so many other things to love.

I really really dislike Rap right now because ppl treat it like a hustle they take these talented kids dress them up in designer clothes and have them lie about how tough they are, it's degrading the (and not only Rap) and some of these rappers don't have any skills when it comes to rhyming its suppose to be like poetry but its confusing like putting together furniture from Ikea, how did he fit that word in? Not all rappers are bad just most

Well I dunno what u talkin bout but whats so degradin bout it and whats so gross..not all songs are gross..ur just not actually listenin to all rap ..did u hear a couple or songs and decided hey..its gross and degradin..well its not I rap and nothin gross or degradin about it oh and to answer the question is because why most people listen to wateva they can relate to..I can relate to some rap songs and stuff u kno like country people listen to country cause hey they can relate to it..thats the way of life

i'd answer as a white guy into hip hop . because its sturdy song , i respect hip hop by using many kinds and influnces in it , yet i do see that mainstream rap interior the charts is all into the birds, bling, weed and shoothin some fool mentality of existence on the city parts , its the total downtrodden plenty does sturdy form of vibe , so i'd wager at that for the significant reason however it fairly works throughout with song , why does united states of america song from nashville charm to someone in albania ?

I agree with you. I don't like rap, Its meaningless. That along with many other kinds of music and songs. I think that we'd be better learning then listening to any music whats so ever.

rap is a new stye of music that was formed by the clashing of cultures and it is a way for gansters to have their voice heard
It is also because rap a new way of putting poetry in a new form
Personally most people listen to it because it is catchy and trendy

I so agree with YOU! like songs lik the whisper song is soo degrading to women! but i like some R&B that talk about real love like Neyo..sexy love..But i love rock more. its not degrading towards anyone! They play their own instruments and acutally now how too and full of energy at concerts and their songs have real meaning to them like the all american rejects♥!! Well thats what i think

i dont like rapp either i answered a question a 15yo rapper who asked how to be cool he sent a e-mail back saying in some sort of rapp lingo he will f me up these r the kind of idiots out there only 15 and heading soon 4 jail

i don't listen to rap, but i'm not going to say it sucks because music is music and music is life. if you were to really have some rythm and soul you can listen to any type of music and flow.
