A fast food restaurant.

First off, flexible hours are a nice dream, but unless you're in outside sales where you work 15 hours a day to make your quota, flexible hours are REALLY hard to get. As for working with people and helping people, I thought you were looking for a career (one that wouldn't require a master's degree in Social Work). Volunteer at a food bank or at a homeless shelter, but get a job that pays your bills. Ninety-nine people out of a hundred would like a job where they could set their own hours and give advice to other people, It's not going to happen if you want to eat and keep a roof over your head.

Learn computers -- I'm not talking building them or writing code, just learn how to use them. Improve your English. Go to a trade school and become a welder. There are lots of jobs out there, but they require hard work to succeed. And your bosses set your hours -- they're usually looking for a person willing to put in the 8 hours needed for the company to prosper.

I know, I sound like I'm raining on your parade. But there's a real world out here which won't hand you a living based on your desire to do good but only when you feel like it.

Being a real estate salesperson seems to fit your description. Most agencies are flexible, you get to work with people every day, and you can help people find the best home for them.

Depending on where you live and its market, you might not be too happy with the initial income and you also need to start out with reasonable savings if you're going to do sales over rentals. It's all about the referrals, so you need to make and maintain contacts before you can really soar. With a lot of hard work, though, real estate sales has a great potential for becoming a fulfilling and lucrative career.

Doesn't have anything to do with your question, but have you thought about taking a communications (speech) class at a college? I used to have a lot of problems speaking in groups, which really was self-limiting at my job (and almost cost me a better position). I found that being forced to give speeches in front of other students has helped me considerably in feeling comfortable talking with large groups.

As for the prior response, I don't think it's unrealistic to have goals for the type of career you want. If you succumb to the negative attitude of never being able to find your dream job, you will always have a miserable life and career. Bill Gates didn't get to where he is today by complaining about "the real world" and how it's working against all of his goals. Imagine how primitive our world would be if everyone gave up so easily.
