why do girls always spend hours getting ready for a date or just to go out with friends? to top that off why do guys care about how a girl looks rather than their personalities?

Girls worry about their appearances so much BECUASE guys care what girls look like. IF we didnt spend so much time to get ourselves beautiful some guys woudlnt think twice about dating us (which is sad). OTher time (and mostly) girls just want to look good for themselves. It makes us feel better when we look better.

I think the really basic reasons are hormones and biology. But in our modern society, those tendencies get exaggerated. Girls are told in commercials and movies and TV shows that they should all look a certain way, and the same venues encourage guys to believe that the really good looking girl is going to want to have sex with them, and that being good looking will make it better.
It is in the general nature of guys to make decisions based on visual input, while girls seem to be more balanced ( not that they aren't equally capable of making foolish decisions on too little information...) It seems that guys have always had a tendency to go after girls they find more attractive. They need that motivation to get over the nervousness that would prevent them from ever attempting to make conversation otherwise. Again, aspects of our society have been exaggerating this aspect of relationships in an unhealthy way.

Because girls are raised to derive self-esteem from their appearance. Take a look at the movies, tv, even the types of girls that become successful musicians (gag) are more looks than talent most of the time. It starts when they are born, when everyone talks about how pretty they are, whereas with boys they talk about how big and strong they are. It progresses to girls vs. boys toys during childhood, and then the pattern is set. Guys are rewarded for getting the attractive girl so they too are brainwashed.

Guys don't care as much as you think they do. I lost over 100 lbs and got no different treatment from any guy, ever. They always wanted me b/c I was "sweet." Girls care more themselves about what they look like. Girls also care about what other girls look like and may comment on it.

because for ages women have had a role to be pretty
it's like the girl hasta be good looking no matter what the guy looks like
so all the uglies ones try to be pretty and the guys look for the best one..

Companies making beauty care products convinced the women that its important to be accepted by society because you are "worth it"

well girls useually care about their appearancce because the guys care and the guys care because they need to be cute and good looking so thats just my opinion...

what you wear usually tells a lot about yourself...besides..i doubt that my sister would ever get a guy if they new what she looked like in the morning!
i wouldn't date a guy who looked all scrabby and didn't wash his hair and everything!

because it is in a mans nature to need good looks for reproduction to pass on these favoriable jeans, and it is woman nature to want a protector, or a guy that dosnt give a **** about his own appearance.
