Al Kaline - Youngest AL batting champion ever, he was 20 when he hit .340 in 1955, slightly younger than Ty Cobb who had held the record as the youngest batting champion.. Kaline went straight to the Tigers in 1953 at the age of 18...He never played 1 inning of college or minor league ball..I'm pretty sure he didn't play in the ***** league either :)
If you mean guys who have played college ball, ***** league or pro ball overseas then played in the ML there are going to be a lot of those...
Robin Yount did play in the minors, he was called up by the Brewers when he was 18..
Catfish Hunter played for the Birmingham Barons minor league team..
Dave Winfield played for the University of Minnesota
Sandy Koufax played for the University of Cincinnati
John Olerud played for the U of Washington
Jim Abbott played for U of Michingan
Pete Incaviglia Played for Oklahoma State
Ernie Banks played 5 years in the ***** leagues and didn't play with the Cubs until he was almost 23
Bob Feller did play in the minors the Indians called him up at the end of the 1936 season when he was still 17
Mel Ott played parts of 1926 & 1927 in the minors, his minor league coach was Casey Stengal his coach with the NY Giants was John McGraw...Ott made his debut at 17 but he only played 10 games for the Giants that year...
I'm sure there are players from before WWII who went straight from HS on to the ML and never went back down to the minors. But I'm wondering how many after WWII? There have been lots of players who played college ball, in the ***** leagues or pro ball elsewhere then went on to the ML...

There are tons! There was no farm system in the early years of baseball, so players went straight to the majors. Names like Roger Maris, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and all players of that age never were in the minors. In recent years, people like Houston Street zip through the minors in less than a year, but they did spend time in the minors nontheless.

i can relate to him. I retired from professional baseball in February of 2003. It changed into an fantastically not easy determination to make yet one i had to make. on the time i changed into playing for the St. Paul Saints, going into my 0.33 season with them, making below $a million,500/month. even as I went ot Minnesota to play my spouse stayed homestead in Nevada. we needed to get out of residing with her moms and dads so I had to offer up the dream. In all certainty the dream changed into lengthy gone after I were given released from the Expos in 2001. I were given to AA Harrisburgh for a month and then the "awl" got here. It changed into the hardest aspect I honestly have ever had to pass by ability of. each and every of the labor and hopes and objectives were taken away in a flash! It changed into the purely aspect i needed to do seeing that i can keep in mind. I too, performed seeing that i changed into 6, performed at a D1 college etc. i wager the alternative to retire changed into the right one to make and it turned right into a touch a lot less confusing because i changed into out of affiliated ball and that i had my degree to fall decrease back on. I now have an fantastically good pastime with an fantastically prominant sunglass employer, a one twelve months old daughter and am the pitching coach for the highschool varsity crew in my city. I omit playing plenty and it hurts to work out freinds up there and men you comprehend you're more effective than, yet some cases your playing cards are not dealt that way. he receives over it, supply him some time and help. it truly is a real marvel to his gadget, his confidense is possibly low and he possibly would not comprehend what to do for artwork now. it truly is scary because he has to attempt new issues. The "dip" he might want to end ultimately because it might want to be an association aspect, I purely do it after I play and coach, yet now with my daughter I try no longer to in any respect. sturdy success and only be there for him!
