A really long time. Compare it to any other government that has been around for 50 years or more and you'll see why. In the US, it's not just poor people who are working. Everyone is working, and many poor people become wealthy. Why do you think so many people are trying to come here to live?

Uh huh.
I guess you forgot about the fall of communism.
Why dont you check out the living circumstances of the rural Chinese. Then we can talk about how Democracy and Capitalism destroy the poor. I was poor once you know. Now I am what they call a D.I.N.K.
I live in a 2500 sqf houe on 10acres of land. Yep I work, but I am by no means poor anymore.
Good luck with your search to blame others for the state of the world. Because with communisim, and socialism you are keeping everyone poor but a select few. Hmmm, I would rather live in a society where 20% are wealthy and 80% are not but the other 80% have opportunity to do otherwise.
Where as the logical and polar opposites of Democracy and Capitalism do the polar opposite, 95% of the population is poor with no opportunity to advance, while 5% enjoy the wealth and the power. I think that was once called feudalism. As you can see it didnt work so well

We've set up safe guards to prevent another 1929. You are delusional. If we could ever get people off their asses and working their wouldn't be a problem. The democrats have created a social class of slaves for votes with all the free money. The US govt will be here long after you and I are gone from this earth.

when the president's attorney general announces that the president has obstructed justice and prevented the investigation of the NSA matter, and congress does nothing, then we truly have lost our republic. congress is not doing its job.
as far as poverty, what fools we are in america where a man can work 30 years and only have 2 weeks paid vacation (or none!) and a waiter in germany gets 6 weeks vacation his first day on the job. what fools we were in america to renounced the union movement.
my great-grandfather was part of the great anthracite coal strikes and we never forgot what made life good in the USA. too many have, alas.
