My baby was only five weeks early but weighed 2 lbs 10 oz. She is on oxygen and moniters. She has a feeding tube and does not eat by mouth at all yet. She is now eight months old but has no teeth yet. When do most preemies cut teeth? I have lots of other questions, but thats it for now. I am a third time mommy but the whole preemie/special needs thing is a whole different world. So many people have no clue what you go through. Thanks for letting me ramble on.

My preemie will be a year this coming Thursday! It's hard to beleive that a year has gone by so quickly. She was six weeks early and weighed 4lbs. 7oz. at birth. She was given CPAP and was under the billy lights for jaundice. After 8 days, she came home!

She's doing well now, but is developmentally at the nine month level. She just started crawling about 2 weeks ago and is trying to pull herself up to stand; however, she's still pretty wobbly. She has two teeth (cut the first two on the bottom at eight months) and two more are just to the surface on top. We are working on her pincer grasp as well as self-feeding and holding her own bottle. She has NICU follow-up appointments every six months until age 2 and the occupational therapist there says that she's doing amazingly well. She, too, had torticollis, which was diagnosed at three months, and has been in the early childhood intervention program since then. It took five months of therapy, but she can now look both directions and hold her head up without any difficulty or side tilt. Overall, she's just one happy baby who loves to smile and giggle. If you want to talk more, e-mail me. It's nice to have someone to relate to on being a "proud preemie Mom". Good Luck!

My son was 5 weeks early. He is almost 5 months old now and he wasn't meeting all the developmental milestones that all the books said he should be, like smiling by 2 months and stuff. I talked to my doctor and he said that you have to do a preemies development by their due date, not their actual birthdate. So a baby born 2 months early would be developmentally like a 3 month old when he or she is 5 months old. On top of that all babies are different. My first born was 2 weeks late and didn't get his first tooth until he was 6 or 7 months old, while my neice had her first tooth at 1 1/2 months. Talk to your doctor about any concerns, and dont look on all the baby websites on development. I did that and it drove me mad, I thought my baby had to be developmentally delayed or autistic because all these websites said he should be doing all these things that he wasnt doing. Now he is perfect and I know that looking on all those sites just made me worry more! Good Luck!

your baby will eventually develop teeth however the baby will be a late starter in everything because she was born very early. You really need to contact a local hospital and see if they have a support group fro premature mothers to attend. I am sure they do and this way you can feel at ease and get all your questions answered and meet with other parents that are in the same boat so you can communicate with them and so you wont feel so alone.

My son, now 22, was a premie...born 3 months premature. He also has visual issues, adhd, learning disabilities, high functioning aspergers and motor control issues. With all this, he is "gifted". If you need help with anything or to chat, feel free to email me...click on my avatar.
