The whole idea of "acting white" vs. "acting black" is racist.  Anyone who accuses you of acting white, black, or green with purple polkadots should be told they are racist, your genes do not rule you, determine your fashions (which probably didn't exist even 20 years ago) or tell you whose orders you should follow and who you should give money to.

There is "acting smart", "acting dumb", "acting cool", "acting like a jerk" and a bunch of other things, but the only association I see with skin color is some people wanting to make excuses for what they know they shouldn't be doing.

Act how you truly feel, there is no acting white or acting black, they protray whites as being more educated and they portray blacks as being ignorant or less educated, but the real fact of the matter is their is ignorance and lack of education in both races, but whites own this country and they call the shots, but you as an individual would want to be yourself no matter how others think. Don't buy into the the white black thing unless you have the need to be a follower, if so go with what you feel more drawn too or comfortable with, it's your life. If everyone was given the same equal shot you would have different results, but thats not reality.

This is a tough question.. I expect that you are a young person just and are just trying to figure out the world you live in. Here's a clue, everyone must decide what type of person they want to be, so if you are worried that you may be different, put that worry away right now, Everyone must decide for themselves, growing up is never easy and it takes courage to be the best you can be, Having the courage to make the right decision is what it is all about, People who rob people know before hand that it is wrong to do it, but they make the decision to be a bad guy because they decide to. No one makes them... Just as your question:"How should I act?" I think you already know the answer, and I can't tell you to behaive in one manner or the next, I can encourage you to take the high road in personal conduct no matter the situation, and to hold yourself to a high level of personal respect for others, yourself and honest forthright conduct

First of all, the notion of "acting white" or "acting black" are both social myths that have been placed out there to separate people and define people within society's comfort zone. You are not confused. You are influenced by the environment that you are in and the people that you are around. BUT, that does not mean that you are confused or that you are not "a real black person." As long as you are not bothered by these parts of your personality--which is basically what all of this is--then you will be fine. Liking white boys, growing your hair longer than neck-length, having predominantly white friends, etc., etc.--there is nothing wrong with that. The main thing you will have to deal with is people thinking you are not "black enough." Of course, those people who will say that prescribe to the idea that black people "all listen to rap, wear baggy clothes, talk with bad grammar, are uneducated, etc." Those people who will want to say that you are not "black enough" are just buying into the notion of what being black means, as defined by predominantly white society. Ignore those people, you will be just fine. BTW, this response is from a dark-skinned, short-haired, black girl from Detroit, with a master's degree, who grew up listening to heavy metal rock music, watching "white" TV shows, is a hockey fan, and liking white boys. And I'm doing just fine in life. So will you. Just ignore the haters.

I don't know. I think it's all sterotype, how one race shoould talk and act. It's stupid. If a black person speaks anything other than slang, people assume they're trying to act white and if a white person acts gangsta, people assume they act black. Just be yourself and don't worry about it. Sorry but that's all I can say.

At the risk of sounding racist or like I'm stereotyping, you should act white if you expect to get anywhere in the world. I've yet to meet a black doctor, lawyer, or other white collar professional who spoke as if they were from the ghetto. If I did, I'd turn and walk away from them, first asking myself, "How the f*ck did she get to the position she's in if she talks and carries herself like THAT?"

Acting white means doing white stuff.
Acting black means doing black stuff.
You should act gray. Or grey when in England. I think this means you should sign up for AARP immediately. But nobody ever listens to me.

Like a well-educated, witty, fun, humorous, beautiful woman. If someone ever says that you are acting white, reply: "No, I'm just being attractive--there's nothing cool about acting ghetto or white trash."

Act how you feel. Be yourself. Your humanity comes from within and you have no need to please people on the outside. Don't we all act a little differently according to situations and feelings of the moment? I think so.
