They don't require them, people buy them as a status symbol

It's usually middle aged small packaged men who drive around in giant hummers trying to impress as if they'll actually take it offroad while living in the Chicago area. I see it all the time

In parts of rural Illinois it's quite possible that such a vehicle might have a practical use. But since the vast majority of the population, especially the population wealthy enough to afford a Hummer live in Chicagoland, the reasoning I gave above is usually correct.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but where I grew up in IL there were beautiful bluffs along the Mississippi where you could drive jeep trails for hours. Also, IL gets a lot of snow and not all counties clean the roads well. OK now that I have supported my home state I have to add that I think anyone who drives a Hummer is making up for what the lack physically (like a corvette driver). I have a jeep that ic economical, functional, and fun to drive.

nicely it easily isn't the hummer. it somewhat passes federal protection law. additionally the h1's 8 feet width capacity it takes up notably much the total lane, and is no longer a vehicle for the squeamish tocontinual.as a mechanic interior the army,I even have torn down a techniques too many hummer h-a million ( mil spec for sure ) it extremely is relatively relatively similiar to the civilian version, basically no wheres close to as intense-high quality indoors, yet driveline is an analogous. and as quickly as they get any significant mileage on them, will value alot extra effective than theyre worth basically to maintain working. if she needs a secure vehicle, particular volvo's are good, and relatively some easy truck/suv's are extremely relatively secure in evaluation to the vehicle opposite numbers

Civilain Hummers have no real purpose other than to look tough. The have a low towing capacity so you can't pull a big trailer. However, they do have pretty good ground clearance. But who wants to take one mudding. I guess the other answer was right status, and looks cool.

I think that Hummers are so lame. They are just plain ugly and there's no rocky terrain down here in FL either. I am not impressed.

maybe because this is a free country and they can buy and drive whatever they want..better than driving a toyota and putting Americans out of work..if I had the money I would buy one...and I see just as many women driving them as men, my cousin drives one she is about 5'3" and when she got rear ended by some idiot she didnt suffer any injuries to her or her baby still in her womb..if she was driving soemthing lesser well I am just glad we dont have to think about that
