Medial means more toward the middle/midline, lateral is further out (the collar bone is medial to the shoulder); superior means above, inferior below (the head is superior to the neck); anterior means the front of the body, posterior the back (the kindeys are posterior); superficial means near the surface of the skin, deep means further into the body/skin (compare to things, like the epidermis is superficial while the dermis is deep); proximal means closer to the body, distal means further away (the elbow is proximal to the hand; the toe is distal to the knee)

Your skin is a superficial organ, but your heart is a deep organ

Your arms and legs are lateral your belly button is medial

Your buttocks are posterior. Your chest is anterior.

Your brain is distal in relation to your heart, however your Lungs are proximal to your heart

medial = center
lateral = side
superior = up
inferior = down
anterior = front
posterior = back
superficial = surface
deep = below surface
proximal = close
distal = away

Usually these are relative to the center of the body.

it's top and bottom. back and front. surface and deep. a superficial wound is just on the surface of the skin. posterior would be like your back.
