If you are not used to wearing makeup be careful not to overdo it. Too many people wear way too much. I recommend going to a store like Dillard's and scheduling a makeover with one of the technician's at the makeup counters. They can not only teach you, but are experts and selecting colors favorable to you and advising you on what won't look good on you as well as good facial cleaning techniques. Cleansing is more important when you wear makeup.

Go to a counter in the mall for a free makeover and make-up tips or go on-line with MaryKaye, Avon, or Beauticontrol to find a consultant in your area. They do free consultations.

Try to match foundation to your skin by using your jaw line not the back of you hand (the hand usually tans darker than your face and then you won't get a good match)

Cleanse and tone your face before applying make-up. Make-up looks better if the pallet (your face) is well taken care of.

Blend foundation past the jaw line so you won't get a line.

Use a good concealer under the eye to cover dark circles, blend it over uneven skin tones and over red spots on face before applying foundation for a more flawless look.

Apply foundation downward so it doesn't turn the hair on your face up and make you look really hairy.

Depending on the shape of your eye apply eyeliner for better eye definition. If you have small eyes, only apply liner on outer portions of the upper and lower lid. Don't apply all the way around it closes up the eye. If you have large eyes you can apply liner across the entire upper and lower lid, but make sure liner is thicker at corners that narrows down to barely any at the inner part of the eye.

CoverGirl LashExact is great mascara for long pretty lashes. If you have naturally long lashes... use a lash curler first to make sure lashes won't look hay wire when you put on the mascara.

Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. Grin a really exagerated grin and then apply blush to the apples or bumps the rise up on either side of your nose under your eyes. Looks great if your face is not too round or plump. Gives a sunkissed look.

If you have a a very round face or plump face, then apply blush in upward strokes from upper center of cheek to the back part of your cheek bone. Suck in cheeks like a fish to make a path to follow. Gives your face a more narrow look.

The trick is to make it look like you dont need make up, dont cake on. dont go over board with color like they did in the 80's (blue eyeshadow, bright red lipstick, bright pink blush, you know). what works best for me is using a liquid foundation all over face to even out complexion and then use a finishing powder to help it stay and reduce shine, then I might put just a little blush on, and mascara, if you do eye liner dont over do it! What really works is that bare minerals stuff, it's so easy and evens out your complexion so well! I would use it if it weren't so expensive!

www.covergirl.com
www.maybelline.com
and other makeup names that you can think of and take their questionaires

Use a spounge for liquids. and if you have dry skin mix your liqid foundation with your moisturizer when you put it on your face (not in the bottle)

Dont use dark lip liners thats just ugly

When putting on pressed powder, don't use a sponge. Use a brush; it gives you an airbrushed look.
