You get 10 points if your answer is voted the best. If someone else comes along and gives that same answer a "thumbs up" rating, you get another point.

So you answer a question and you get 2 points right. You show up on answers and you get 1 point for sighing on to answers. Your answer if picked as best you get 10 points, so rather than 2 points you get 11. You only get the 1 extra point each time you sign on to answers. Or go to volt for best answers or undesided questions.

My fortune teller has three nipples, when I rub the third one she tells me the truth ... your question revealed this:
1 point for a thumbs up best answer on top of the 10 for the best answer.
And more importantly, when asked where will you be in 15 years the nipple revealed this:
A crack-induced coma.
