You get 10 points for having the best answer and one point if someone gives you a thumbs-up. If you go under the "discover" section and see what the best answers are, you can give that "best answer" a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down. For every thumbs-up that best answer gets, it's an additional point. 4 thumbs-up = 4 extra points.

Well I have gotten 10 points for a best answer and then after people vote on it if it gets a good rating they give you another point. Maybe that what's going on.

yeah you get 10 points for every best answer
and then when another user gives you a thumbs up then you get another point!
