Hi, I'm16 and going to the 11th grade and I'm sort of in the same boat as you. If you want your voice to be recognized sing as much as you can. If someone ask you to sing for them, don't be shy, sing out and use the voice GOD gave you. Every where my mom goes she's always telling someone how well I sing. Of course they would be like, "Well I got to hear it for myself!" My mom and her friend would look at me and eventually I would sing. If people want to hear you sing, LET THEM HEAR IT!!!!. Also if you go to church, sing every chance you get. One more word of advice, YOU CAN'T BE SHY, BECAUSE THAT DOESN'T GET YOU ANYWHERE!!!! So far I'm on the right track, It hasn't happened yet, but two guys in my church have promised me that they would record my voice and try to get me a record deal. I pray to GOD that works, because I would love to tell my mom that she can quit her job, because I'm going to take care of her. Anyway sort of off the subject, sorry, I hope your voice is recognized soon. Be patient and don't rush into it, because it will come when it gets ready to!!!

You're in 5th grade and I can't believe that someone wrote what they wrote to you. Be mature about this and if you're smart tell your parents and report that user for 'abuse'.

But to your question: I hear that they have "open mics" at places like book stores and other places as well. Do you play an instrument? I would suggest getting involved with some sort of instrument, the two most popular are probably the piano or the guitar. I myself am 29 and I just started playing the guitar around teh turn of the century, I am still very amateur...but one day I hope to be better. The reason why I don't "play out" anywhere is because of a conflict of interest ~ put shortly I woke up to "stop eating animal products" and well there are not many "vegan" places which offer an "open mic".....

but best wishes to you in what positive things you may do...

Congratulations on your talent! What you need to do now is learn as much about music as you can, then sing at every opportunity. Even if it doesn't seem like "cool" music, you'll learn a tremendous amount about the way music works if you join a school choir or other music group---maybe even musicals at your school. Find ways to perform with other musicians when you can. Since you're young, you don't need to rush this----you've got plenty of time. Also, begin to listen to recordings of all kinds of music: classical, blues, etc., so that you understand where all this music comes from. A great website to read about all kinds of musicians is www.allmusic.com. It's full of interesting stories about thousands of musicians, and I find it pretty inspiring and interesting. It even lists their albums too, so that you can find their music and listen to it. You might want to read about others who have shared your dream and who have made it, so get a book called "So you Wanna Be a Rock Star? How to Create Music, Get Gigs, and Maybe Even Make It Big," written by Stephen Anderson. Even if rock is not your style, you'll learn interesting stuff from the book. Go to your library and find books on music history there too, so that you know where the music you like originated from (that'll make you feel part of a big, musical family). I guarantee, if you're talented and keeping putting yourself out there in school and community performances, you'll get noticed. Eventually, you may want to make a demo tape, and get an agent, but I'd wait awhile on that because of your age. There's a lot to be said for developing your heart and soul as you gradually learn about music and its business. If you take it seriously, as a real career, you'll find people who'll help you. They'll sense your sincerity and love for the music, which is most important of all. Good luck, and have a wonderful life with your gift! Use it wisely and well.

try 2 join a band. If ur into rock and stuff like that, check out battle of the bands and if u think ur good enough, have u and ur band play in it. Pretty much every city has one, u can check 4 when on google or sumthing. But first do open mic at a cafe or sumthing. If u don't want 2 be in a band, try 2 learn guitar or another instrument u don't need 2 blow into, then make up sum lyrics and music. good luck.

One thing you can do is to volunteer to sing. Sing in church, sing the National Anthem, go to an old folks home and sing songs they'd like to hear again. Make tapes, send them around to record companies and agents. Audition with bands. If you get a chance to sing karaoke, do it. Believe in yourself and just keep trying until you get the break you are looking for. Good luck!

See if there is an honor choir at your local university. Often, those with honor choir experience go on to greater things as they learn. Just try it and see if you qualify. If not, don't give up! Keep singing!
