Psychiatry is sometimes seen as superior to psychology due to extensive medical training. They can look at physical and well as mental issues a person may be having. They typically prescribe medications. Psychology on the other hand has little medical training and focuses mostly on techniques to change behaviors and research. The differences between the two groups are beginning to shift however and in some states psychologists, with a little more training, are allowed to prescribe medications to their clients.

Psychology focuses more on the studying of people or groups. Pscyhiatry is psychology only it is more a focused study of an individual or individuals, but a psychiatrist has a medical degree so they can prescribe drugs to their patients..
