a duacore AMD CPU
2 gigs of dual chanel memory
at least 500GB HDD a single game takes at leasst 4GB
videocards are kinda confusing ATI X850 or higher nVidia 6800GS or higher

3.5 Ghz processor(or better) (I like the AMD's for gaming)
100gigabyte SATA 10,000RPM hardrive(2 for striping)
4 gig of RAM
Either the:
ATI Crossfire
or
NVidia SLI GEforce 7800(current?) for gaming.
Most mainboards have built in sound and NIC.

Fast cpu, fast graphics, fast and lots, of RAM!
and good sound card.
Oh, and a dang good monitor.
