I ?like to start a collection as a hobby with my daughter who is 7. Would like to create a book, divide it and then list each country. How do I go about collecting a currency, the closet denomination to a US dollar bill, from each country?

Avoid Littleton coins they are too over priced.

Find a coin store in your area and they usually have a "junk" of money from around the world for a few bucks.

I know this sounds overused but, try eBay there are coin and currency lots that you can go through.
Of course each country sells bills for collectors but the are killer with shipping charges.

The best is to join a coin forum or club and trade American dollars for dollars of other countries. Many forums have space set aside just for trading, selling or buying.

There are too many more to list.

Have you considered writing to a Mayor in France, a Post Office in Spain, Civil Servant department in Poland asking for whatever?

Most people are pleased when "outsiders" take an interest in their culture. However, to be polite, consider finding out what their currency is before you send off letters. Why don't you send a US dollar bill in a letter asking for a peso or dinero, etc in exchange? This way you will be pleasing your would-be benefactor as well as helping to change that person's world view of your country. (Lord knows, the US needs it!)

Bonne chance!
