You are probably thinking of black holes, and yes they do exist. All "suns" range from red to white, but I have never heard of black.

During spring in Denmark, at approximately one half an hour before sunset, flocks of more than a million European starlings (sturnus vulgaris) gather from all corners to join in the incredible formations . This phenomenon is called Black Sun (in Denmark), and can be witnessed in early spring throughout the marshlands of western Denmark, from March through to the middle of April. The starlings migrate from the south and spend the day in the meadows gathering food, sleeping in the reeds during the night. The best place to view this amazing aerial dance is in the place called "Tøndermarsken,"

Some stars that do not have enough mass to collapse into either black holes or neutron stars when they use up all their fuel become what astronomers call "brown dwarfs", and the heat they put out is from gravitational compression. They are very low energy, they emit barely any light, so they appear brown.

Maybe you are thinking of a
Neutron Star
Some stars after a long time become White dwafs which is a super luminous and hot yet small star (the core of the star). After time it cools down and becomes "black". This might be what you were thinking.
