I thought at first that this may be because the babies that were aborted were crack babies or something but the stats show that only represents less then 1% so then I thought maybe it was rape victims but that is even a smaller percent (even if every rape victim in America became pregnant it would still be less than 4%). Turns out about 87% of abortions are done on white, healthy young (collage age) women. What’s the deal???

After just a few minutes all of the answers center around selfishness. Some even think it is justifiable to terminate your own offspring in order to have 9 months of convenience. What does that say about people taking responsibility for their actions and about what we are becoming as a people?

Many answers now seem to be from older feminists who make valid arguments about the stygma of pregnancy and its effects on young women. Two problems with this. One the stygmas that existed when these women were younger no longer exist for the most part and two they forget that these women CHOOSE to have sex. The want to given young women choices but they don't want them to have to accept the consiquences of those chooses.

In simplicity, selfishness. Most, as your read, parents who abort do so for selfish reasons. Such as career, education, inconvienance, embarassment, etc... A true loving parent would never abort his or her child. NEVER!

Sleeper grrl: I think MOST women would rather have a baby than an abortion. Being pregnant may not always be easy (try carrying multiples!), but I know that it beats having an abortion. There are certain circumstances that I "can" understand (rape...), but women that do it just because they are embarrased about being pregnant and use it as a form of birth control need to close their legs! People need to be a little more responsible for their actions. Besides, there are alot of women out there who would do almost anything to just be able to have a baby.

so its selfish now to want to wait t have kids until you can truly take care of them and support them? These young women are trying to secure their future and get an education. having a baby makes that nearly impossible. While it is true that going back to school with school age or teenagers is a possibility, cramming for a final with a newborn is nearly impossible. Plus, what is she supposed to do during the couple months before and after giving birth that she can hardly do anything? ask for a homework pass? Even if she gives the baby up for adoption, those nine months of morning sickness could force her to quit school and end up in a dead end job with no future. If you truly cared about America's youth you would want to help these girls and prevent more babies from being born into poverty.

Single Parents

Single parents account for 27 percent of family households with children under 18.

1) More than two million fathers are the primary caregivers of children under 18, a 62 percent increase since 1990.

2) One in two children will live in a single-parent family at some point in childhood.

3) One in three children is born to unmarried parents.
Between 1978 and 1996, the number of babies born to unmarried women per year quadrupled from 500,000 to more than two million.

4) The number of single mothers increased from three million to 10 million between 1970 and 2000.

The wait time varies on the age and health condition of the child.

Make sure you pray on this decision, ask the Lord to guide you.

I don't know about the waiting list for adoption, but it is true that more than a million babies are aborted each year. There are all kinds of reasons why a baby is aborted. Many times, it is because a pregnancy is "inconvenient" at that time....or the baby is the wrong sex.

If you have ever accompanied someone through a pregnancy you would know why women would rather have abortions. Time and money are a factor, but more of a factor is having to explain to everyone you know what happened to the kid you were carrying. With an abortion no one has to know you got pregnant and for college women especially, that's a big deal.

Gee, how many unwanted black babies are there waiting to be adopted? Why are they so undesireable? Why don't white couples desperate to adopt go for all the unwanted, unloved black babies? Hah?!

The premise behind your question is incredibly offensive and wrong. Women are not baby farms and to justify banning abortion using stupid arguments like "gee, the waiting list to adopt white babies is too long" is retarded. Abortion is a private medical decision that a woman makes concerning her own body. What she does with her body and how she chooses to use it is not any of yours or the fundamentalist's business.

Maybe you should sit down and read "The Handmaid's Tale" by Margaret Atwood. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Handmaid%27s_Tale#Subjugation_of_women

Its also cultural, working many years on Social Service I notice that many non-white woman will never get an abortion in most cases its frowned upon and there is support in the family not saying that White woman don't have support that's just the case. Woman are told that children will hold them back (not true) it will hamper but not hold them back. most ppl who choose to have an Abortion (although the agency I worked for didn't believe in abortions) tend to be 20ish white woman. Abortion is a quick fix for some ppl, there are families that are willing to raise these children but its painful and embarrassing for some most women to carry a child to full term so some choose Abortion.

I had some friends that had abortions and ones that kept there baby (respect both choices)... for them it was very early in the pregnancy and they knew they could never give there baby the life they would want. I think college is such it's own world. If you have a baby in college it is like you wear a scarlett letter on your chest...some people can't take the pressure.... plus alot of women in college are educated to think that "oh my god if you have this baby now you are ruining your whole future, you won't have money and have to drop out of college".... My friend who did have her baby is such a great mom and is now going on to get her masters....I am proud of her!

The "convenience" comments are just ignorant parroting of right-wing propaganda, and the anti-abortion movement undermines its credibility by insisting on referring to every abortion as the killing of a baby. If they were more honest about it and helped promote both birth control and access to early-term abortions (that is, before there's a human being involved), I'd be a lot more inclined to consider their position. By choosing the opposite tactic the anti-abortionists demonstrate that their real commitment is to the use of unwanted pregnancy as a political tool

well it is a woman's choice. Maybe you don't believe in it, a lot of people don't, but that is the choice woman have in this country by law. A lot of those babies would not have been put up for adoption anyway, most of thos women would have kept their children, but just think about it, how many of those unwanted children who would not be placed up for adoption be abused , neglected or even killed by a parent? Lots of things to consider it is a touchy topic.
