Well, after seeing everything you know disappear in the matter of just one day...it depresses you. You couldn't reach your loved ones by phone because we couldn't get any signal with the lack of towers! Then you felt like you were in a 3rd world country because there was trash everywhere [what was once people's homes and businesses]. I'll never forget seeing MPs standing at the railroad tracks making sure that certain people could cross. I also remember meeting a woman who had a massive barge land in her yard in Gulfport. She asked if anyone wanted to buy it and then laughed. There is only one way to get past it...and it's to laugh. It was so depressing watch people go through their things and try to salvage what they can.

TO THIS DAY!!!! July 25, 2006....people still reside in FEMA trailers on the slabs. It's beautiful when you see street lights go up and start seeing hwy 90 (beach front road) light up again. Mississippi is a beautiful place...on the coast.

However, I do feel the the govt didn't do a good job. I want to say YEY to Gene Taylor, Trent Lott, and Haley Barber. They fought together to make Mississippi get through this a little easier. We are also a great state because we stood up and kept walking. We ARE NOT NEW ORLEANS and will be insulted if you compare us to them! :)

Also, casinos haven't all opened yet, so we are not all employed again! We're working on it though!!!

I must say that the images will forever be stuck in my mind and the smell of the dead bodies will stay with me forever!

a disgrace and the greatest Prof of the incompetence of the actual government . it really bothers me the way the GOP has treated one of the nations most important cities ,the way the poor were treated and the way some who call themselves patriots blame the same poor for not leaving when they did not have the means to do so . i also think it was so shameful to see the mother of the president saying ' they were poor anyways ' and to never see her or any member from his family condemning her comments .

George Bush must have used his hurricane machine, that was made by Hallibuton, with funding from big oil.

This is simply put as it can be..Uncle SAM is a pretty good uncle but he's a damn poor daddy..So many young black women with little babies..AND NO DADDIES..They get the Gov check, but that don't make up for a husband or a father being there in tough times..

A total disgrace from "our" president who could care less about the poorest people in OUR country. Heck, if you saw 9/11 you could see from his expression that he was too stupid to understand what was happening in NYC and DC. How can we expect him to do anything right? The area looks like it did 11 months ago- what a disgrace. "Our" president can't do anything but Brad Pitt is helping them out to rebuild -what does that tell you? I say Brad Pitt for president in 08!!!!!

Well....I have heard on Yahoo that it was Bush's fault, but I hardly think he's that powerful. So what about it? It was a hurricane, there will be more.

It was poorly responded to by our leaders. Why? because they dont give a crap about african americans and poor people and because it served no profitable purpose to respond with the people at heart. oh and the mayors "chocoalte city" comments just made him look like a doofus.
