any musicians from ny or la, im a singer/songwriter trying to decide which city would be best.?

Not a musician, but I am from NY and I know people that book gigs left and right. I don't know how that works in LA. Are you looking to be discovered or just have some sort of career in singing/songwriting, even if you're not world famous? There are an uncountable number of bars/lounges that have live music, so if you are okay with being a local heartthrob, NYC is a good city to start a music career in.

Also, Chris Noth (Big from Sex and the City) actually owns a bar here called "The Cutting Room" where apparently there are music industry bigwigs that go and listen to the performers there, looking for the next hot talent. That being said, I'm sure there are other bar/lounges that work similarly.
