Among computer pros AOL is known as Internet for dummies. That's because you can get better service from almost any other provider. AOL puts a lot of junk on your computer to monitor it and limit what you can do on the Internet. I have also heard ,from a professional, that AOL is hard to remove from your computer.
Danuiti is right; you can sitll use your AOL e-mail account even if you change services. You can also contiune to use AOL Instant Messenger with no problems.
I suggest that you get rid of AOL and move on to another Internet Service Provider. Check out: http://www.findanisp.com/
I have listed some other sources below.

I totally agree with most of the answerers before me, but what I need to add is that unlike most other services, AOL will cut you off from their service at a drop of a hat for a lot less than what some people post some Yahoo Boards, and at times you're blocked from any conflict resolution, and they still have the nerve to charge you. After a couple of times of that, I ditched AOL for good.
I'm NEVER, EVER going to do business with them again.
BTW, One way to avoid AOL to continue to charge your card, is to report that card lost or stolen, so that when they issue you a new one, AOL can no longer touch it.

AOL sucks! We had all kinds of problems with them. We finally got DSL from our phone company...it's cool & AOL can go jump in any large body of water. Everything is better than AOL. People's PC is not bad. Earthlink is okay. Anything but AOL.

Well if u got aol you can chat with someone online it takes way less time then calling aol.... Try uninstalling aol then reinstalling it... We used to have aol then we got comcast and it works great its worth the money.... And if you want alot of the same features that you can get on aol such as instent messaging, email, search..... then dowload aim (triton) and your all set..... You can even keep your aol screen name after you get rid of aol... so you can use the same email once you get rid of aol by using aim... Hope my info helps...

You would like DSL or Cable high speed. Either one. Check for price and availability in your neighborhood.
Then give AOL the DUMP.
By the way, you can use your AOL email address at www.aol.com after you DUMP them. They will hope to get you back.

Sorry to hear you've had some problems, if you can, try and get a broadband connection, you won't regret it. Net Zero offers dial up service for a decent price as well as People PC. I haven't had much experience with either one but there supposed to offer pretty good tech support.

I absolutely hate AOL. Try NETZero or Earthlink. Both are great. Or get a cable modem from your cable carrier and get high speed.
