Yeah, laziness is the mother of progress.
For example, try to imagine how the agriculture was invented:
Everybody went out to hunt and gather.
But one guy was lazy and did not want to hunt and gather everyday.
So he thought why don't i plant the edible plants right next to my cave -- that way i will not have to go to forest anymore.
And the rest is history.

Yeah laziness leads to the couch potato people. Sometimes its not always that they are lazy but I ve seen people that just get tired really fast. and sometimes if someone just sits around and sleeps all day does virtually nothing, that person could have depression. Cuz I have depression and at times in the past I have had to force myself to get up and do something. Now if there just lazy lion status im to pretty, or to blah, blah to do stuff for myself. i would say its just leading to stupidity and a weight problem.

It depends what you mean by laziness. It could well be a lack of motivation but also a sign of laziness could be mistaken for depression. In regards of depression, when someone tells us to get up and get on with life, its not that we don't want to, but there are aspects in our life that has triggered us or no longer is a source of motivation. This comes down to how strongly our feelings and emotions affect us; and also what our perspectives of things are in general.
Maybe you just have to know why and dwelve deeper into your inner most thoughts and emotions and articulate what makes you this way. Or maybe you should find a hobbie or course or something that may inspire you to lead to something and not nothing. Not only would you get to know yourself better but also its a sign of achievement and it will raise your self-esteem and confidence.

I used to think it is environmental. But, now that I have had 3 boys, I think it is genetic. My oldest is just like his dad! Sweet, but will do anything not to have to work including being a professional student. The middle is like me...he wants to work to have material things and he works hard and enjoys it. The youngest is like his uncle. He only works if he has to.

I think it's the natural state for all animals to do as little as necessary to thrive. Why should humans be different?
