Where the most thing beautiful things in life are more important to you than others, including family? When children and loved ones become second best to your dreams?

Is it a selfish endeavor to clamour towards the holy grail of your very existence and ride contently in the vehicle that is driving your purpose for life towards a goal that will make your soul illuminate artistically in the consciousness of humanity?

If we abandon the vehicle, or soul, that drives us towards our selfish passions, are we not wasting life?

Sure, why not. However wouldnt it be so much better if there was no contradiction and opposition between these two contrary forces/ What if a choice was not necessary because these two things were one and the same.In other words, do you really think that you can follow your soul and your ambitions in a vacuum, without human influence to guide you, or deter you? It doesnt have to be family or friends, but I think in life anything done just for oneself and the betterment and benefit of oneself quickly shrivels and loses meaning. I have found the greatest joy to come from sharing a passion with others, revealing to others something meaningful to me, in other words, using whatever it is that i excel at for other people. And pehaps this is the root of fulfilling one s destiny and dreams and soul. I tried just now to think of one endeavour that will put you ina position in which you will have to sacrifice your social and familial duties, and I kinda had a hard time. Also, another thing: if you really do decide to follow your dream and what your sould needs, at the expense of familly, children, loved ones, perhaps you will arive at your desired destination faster, but wouldnt this destroy the pleasure and the meaning of your accomplishment? I think it would be more heroic and meaningful to arrrive where you want to by taking the hard way and juggling more than one thing at once. I am not sure my answer helped much, I hope it did.

Don't wanna sound too preachy. I am gonna quote Jesus on this one but it's a simple truth that can apply to any faith or culture. He said "No man has greater love than he who lays his life down for another."

So to answer your question. The greatest goal in life is a lfe of sacrifice. This doesn't have to be just physical death either. One can sacriface ones dreams and passions for a family member, a wife, or children. There is no greater love. Who cares if someone becomes the next great star if their kid's hate their gut's.

Watch "The Magnificent Seven" one day, a classic movie. Then listen to the line that Charles Bronsons character say's to the little kid's about what a REAL hero is. It's totally true.

One needs to overcome emotions and passions with knowledge and wisdom in order to enlighten ones soul. Your soul as you see it may be just you, but that may be your first mistake. Is it a selfish passion to want to achieve a higher state of being so that you may guide others to the same level. If your life as you see it is just you and your family maybe you need to reevaluate your way of thinking. Every breath that you take effects others in a someway just your being here or not being may change the course of life as one knows it for the world or more.

I think i see where you're coming from, I mean some people forget about the body and the condition of simply "doing unto others". However I do believe in the "soul" and the condition of the soul.....meaning ~ what you do with your "bodily-actions" will have a profound effect upon the soul. I don't think we should follow it anymore than striving to uphold GOOD actions, thus a good soul would be maintained.

Why must one preclude the other? Why is it an either/or? Why can't the passion of the soul, or pursuing one's dream be a part of the whole of one's life? What do you define as the most beautiful things in life? Life is not lived in absolutes, but all of life overlaps and entertwines.

I think that I agree with you, I dont know about putting something second best to it, but I do believe they will either get on board with what your doing or they wont and either way if you want to live your life, you have to do that....I dont think that "things" standing in your way should stop you..
I dont think its selfish...if you dont follow your dreams and allow the others around you to see you wither away into nothing....

Only in following your own sole can you be your complete self.
This your true gift to the world and is not selfish in the least.Think of your motivation for turning your back on your own existence.
Do you see the selfish way of being?
It is harder to identify self than to portray it.

have you read "anthem" by ayn rand? this is a selfish endeavour in one sense but what is also true is that we are all various expressions of the same single energy. you can only truly live for yourself and your "soul" sleflessly if you incorporate all of existance.
