Well, I like the idea of everyone setting up their own retirement plans. But if you wanna play around with Social Security, feel free. Just don't raise my taxes for it again, because I already know that it's going to fail, just like every other government program. Any simple math proves that it can't last much longer without some fiddling.

Forget Social Security. Forget government. If you are not receiving SS currently, you never will. If you are looking for a government guarantee of security, you are in very grave trouble.

What else then? The clan, the family, the neighborhood, friends. And given the unreliability of these, you'd better be of a mind to be able to take care of yourself under all circumstances.

Social Security? How about a nice garden at the edge of a quiet forest in a remote area with good water in abundance. How about your own knowledge base? Invest in your own knowledge of how to take care of yourself and in the simple tools to do so.

Require it but let everyone invest it on their own like a 401K or similar product.
