Maybe a cool pool party if it's in the summer time! You know, especially if you live in one of those big surburban neighborhoods or just about any neighborhhod and decide that you want to throw a cookout and a pool party! I had a cookout in my neighborhood for my 14th b-day this year...it was off the chain and everyone was there. The only thing was, at my b-day party, we had water balloon fights, all of the boys and girls! It was so cool! ;~D

Here's one that you can do yourself and not spend a ton:
Have a teasure hunt/pirate theme:
~Cake shaped and decorated like a pirate flag, or with a ship on it
~ For invitations, do them on your computer, set the print to type backwards (in print settings), so it is a hidden message that has to be held up to a mirror to see
~For a cool activity that is also the guest grab bag: Get a carboard box, decorate it like a treasure chest and fill it with candy, small prizes from the dollar store, coins, etc. Then have clues (maybe in with the gifts?) leading all the kids to figure out where the treasure is hidden.

This way it is something the kids can do, but not cost you a fortune!
Good luck!

i'm taking a guess that you're NOT the actual boy himself but maybe the father or mother,

Anyway

Knowing kids these days and how fast they want to grow up and mature i would deffinetely say NOT the clowns and ponies, (or ANY theme at all)

For presents:
takes notes on your son, what does he like and what is he interested in, now after you have that down, think, How can you ENHANCE what he's interesting in? trust me, no matter what it is, always think, big, shiny, loud and exciting, that's what us guys like.

No matter what, let all his friends come over and make sure there is FOOD. no matter what, 14 year old boys EAT. you should know that by now. if you're a parent, you don't have to be around much, at all even, trust your kid, unless he has criminal records, let him have a good time with his boys.

to save money let THEM figure out fun stuff to do, kids are creative so you won't have too much to worry about, let them go in the backyard or a park and have a waterballoon fight with super soakers. toss a football around with them.

Drive Drive Drive them to somewhere cheap but fun like a beach. and they'll figure out the rest, carry an icebox of drinks so that they can be refreshed after playing.

cake, keep is simple and delicious, no rainbowy colory play figureines on top, with complicated textures, make it a cake that TASTES very good, and looks atleast moderate and humble.

kids are changing these days so you really have to pay attention to them in order to get into their minds. what kids crave most is trust from their parents so that is key. most of all, let the kid know that' he's growing up and he deserves more rights as he enters adulthood. It might sound scary but ifyou bear with it, all will go well.

good luck, stay cool, and happy birthday to him!

Ask him what interests him, and use those ideas to plan an event.
