Because unlike the medieval right they have to deal with reality and not ideology.
The world as much as you would like it to be guy wearing white hats and black hats isn't that way. Big government isn't bad because it is big, the right to bear arms hasn't protected any ones liberty since the USA invaded Canada and lost.
The world is a complex difficult place. The vision of an ideology that America has a manifest destiny is killing American troops in Iraq and will continue to kill them.

Because many of them are smoking funny cigs....have been fired from their jobs for stupidity, and therefore have all day to sit around making up fantasies and trying to sell them as truth.
