Experienced law enforcement and federal judges can be well considered to have highly knowledgeable concerns regarding this unwholesome practice, an innovation of a conservative President only as far back as Reagan, by way of the conservative Alito, now on the court.
The Constitution, as a whole and particularly, has no provision for a President to sign a bill into law, saying he "reserves the right" to ignore it, interpret it, change it, apply it sometimes and not others, etc. The Constitution does grant any such right.
These "signing statements" are legally void. He signs a bill, it's law. So if he does not execute the law, whether or not he substitutes his own "interpretation," he is failing to carry out his duties. What higher crime or misdemeanor is there than failing to carry out the duly enacted and signed laws of the United States?
But the times are in the hands of the morally and ethically corrupt, and the uncourageous and "practical expediency." So we will be left with a Presidency that can do as it pleases, up to and including brushing the other branches aside. Nice, real nice.

Right or wrong, I don't see the point in impeaching Bush. He will be out of office by January 2009. I think we can suffer with him for that much longer without resorting to impeachment. Though I have to concede that it does make the impeachment option in the constitution nothing more then pointless words on paper.

I agree; Why WOULD anyone want to challenge him, especially up to or including impeachment ?
I suppose some people have too much time and money on their hands, or are just hypocritical *******. Either that, or they are incapable of reading any history that disagrees with their fantasy of how the world works.

No...if that were really the case, the ABA and Democrats would be all over it.
