Its supposed to be one of the smiley faces - like this one: :). The X is the eyes, crossed I think, and the D is supposed to be the open mouth.
I think its supposed to be a happy, really excited face?

If you mean the way I think you do, it's an emoticon for laughing. Kind of like =D is a big smile, the X is the closed eyes, and the D is the laughing mouth.

if it was said to you in an instant message its a smiley, like a big smile/grin
or if it is on a smartcard/memory card, its just the format that card uses, you need to find an XD slot to read it

LOL That has had me perplexed too! I still don't know except my guess would be something like eXtra special or extra sized???
