My daughter is mixed. I'm white and her father is black. When she was younger, around 5-8 years old, she did get teased because her older brother is white. But she is 12 now and she does not have any problems. Just these little kids not having anything good to say.

i think that this is a very good question and i can only answer from the perspective of a family i have known most of my life.
we'll call them the jones'. mr jones is black and mrs jones is white. they have 2 kids, maggie and mark. maggie is white and mark is a light black or i suppose, mulatto.
maggie, growing up was always accepted as white and had primarily white friends and hung out in a "white" crowd.
mark associated more with a "black" crowd, yet even they didn't completely accept him b/c he was partially white.
maggie ended up going to college, gaduating and at some point i think she was interning at the white house in DC.
mark never really applied himself to school very much, he also, got into some trouble with police etc.
i'm not saying that this was because of their race, but i did think it was interesting to see how they were raised the same and had the same opportunity and expectations, yet turned out very differently.
so, personally, i think, by actually knowing this family, that maggie did well b/c she never had to deal with an identity issue. mark had problems b/c he couldn't find a group to "belong" to.
like i said, it's a toss up. so, if you have bi-racial kids i just hope that they have a great sense of who they are and find a group of friends to really feel good around.
take care.

my kids are racially mixed but it is Mexican and white. Most of the time they are treated OK but they have had their share of ignorant people calling them by racial slurs. we live in pretty much an all white town. they are the only kids of any color at their school. I think the people that call them names would pick something else to make fun of them about. they are just ignorant

A close friend of mine is mixed, and I have never noticed him being mistreated because of it. It may be that our school (In Alabama) has a large black population so he and his sister don't get picked on.

Mine didn't. I have one African American/Caucasian daughter (now 20) and one Guyanese/Caucasian daughter. We are white parents and also have a natural born son. We've never had that problem and the girls never told me they had problems in school with that.
