People have interbred related species for generations (Like a mule is a cross between a horse and a donkey.).
Scientists have also created a green, glow in the dark rabbit by taking genes from a jellyfish and inserting them into the rabbit (so you can find your pet in the dark).
Amazing what science can do!

A mule is the result of a horse and donkey. The genes are just close enough to create a viable offspring, but all mules are sterile.

in the wild certain birds with cross breed...two different species of warbler, or two different buntings. And Tigons and Ligers.

I know of people who have mixed wild cats with domestic cats, not a good idea.
