I am not interested in answers of those who just visited, but those who MOVED there. How did you do it? Did you find work? What did you think? Why did you do it?

I moved here to St Thomas 30 plus years ago....I think I'll stay!!!!!
How? By airplane, and you can ship your stuff easily if you want, although nothing travels as easy as money.....
Work? St Thomas/St John are just like any small town anywhere.....there's work for every job from accountants to zoologists.......with a big building boom on St John, as rich yuppies build million dollar homes, there's LOTS of work in the construction/repair/accounting/decorating/property maintenance fields, for example............and if you know anything about boats or hotel work, you're set.....
Why? I sail and growing up in New England you only get to sail 40 days a year and I was sick of shoveling snow.......and while the government is about 95% local born West Indian American black, the general populace is 50 % "Born here", 25% Hispanic and 25% white, mostly folks from the mainland.
we get such a huge number of transients through here we tend to be a little stand offs until we know you're really planning on being here,so be prepared for 3 moths of job search house hunting........good safe apartments are around 1000.00 a month for a1 bedroom ( but no heating bills!) and everything else is about 20% more than Stateside .....other than that, it's REALLY nice here.
