Because they have been given it all and never had to earn it. Work builds character, problems build character. Plus how many parents spend the quality time and teach their kids real true values now.

I am a teenager and I can say that things get hard but they get easy to sometimes it feels like everyone's against you and no one is on your side but you come to realize that there is hope in this world. It takes a bit to understand really what we go through and I disagree with some of the things you stereotyped about teenagers because we are not all the same and some grow up differently and I think that you should look at the big picture and realize we aren't that bad give us a chance!

I think its because of the dumbing down of education worldwide and the fact that if their taught very little they dont really know how to deal with lifes difficulties its happening all over we give them it all but then complain when they just want more, with no idea how to get it for themselves.Drop religion and the misery it causes over the lack of education and real life skills and you end up with seriously unhappy kids.

THE dumbing down of America!
Some thirty million adults in the U.S. do not have the skills to perform even the most basic tasks such as adding numbers on a bank slip, identifying a place on a map, or reading directions for taking a medication. Eleven million Americans are totally illiterate in English.
Only twenty-nine percent of Americans have basic reading and computing skills. One out of every twenty Americans lacks the ability to understand what is going on in the world or to develop an informed opinion for voting.

Because most children aren't raised by their parents. They are left with a babysitter within weeks of being born, then with pre-schools, then with public schools, and so on. Then when they do come home from these places, they are left with the "electronic babysitter" aka the TV. When a problem arises, the "parents" give away power to an "authority" like a therapist, counsilor, priest, and so on. By the time they are teenagers, they don't know who they are, who their parents are, what in the bloody hell to do with themselves, so they act like you described.

I suspect that your definition of "have it all" really leaves them with nothing at all, because the thing they need and want the most is a really family unit, and not this dysfuntional loosely termed "family", let's all watch TV 16 hours a day in seperate rooms and never bond at all, type situation that is ever present in the US and every other developed nation in the world.

My mum had this poster on the fridge when I was a teenager "Quick!! Ask a Teenager while they still know everything!" I think that sums it up. Being a teenager is such a tough time you're discovering who you are, what you believe in and where you fit into this crazy arsed world. So I say cut them some slack show them some understanding and just chill out...I would go back to being a teenager for anything...

Today? Aren't teenagers like this all through history, granted they may be a bit more vocal about their teenage angsty emotions, mainly I think because they are growing up in a world where they are growing up too fast and are too young to cope...acting out or getting depressed I suppose is simply how some teenagers cope...of course bad parenting doesn't help either.

Bad parenting. The issues that they grapple with are not properly handled/taught by there parents. The concerned/stricker parenting when they are much younger has dissipated, and fewer families are making time to speak and spend quality time together. These things cause the youth to negatively come to terms with any obstacles in their lives. They don't know any better, and it's a shame.

All teenagers have always been like this, puberty is the time to test boundaries. Relocated bull elephants entering this stage in their life became excessivley agressive and destructive. After the introduction of adult males to the area the behavious of the young bulls were brough under control.

If teenagers are out of control, it is because society allows them to be.

thats the way society makes them. teens are early on put into type casts and it is near impossible to break out of those molds. this buts a lot of stress on teens because they may not like the group they are in and cannot find a way out. it gets stressfull and thus can lead to depression and suicidal thoughts and tendencies. also it is simpily part of being a teen to rebel in some way or another, it is there way of trying to find themselves and create a unique personality that they will occupy for the rest of their lives!

Well there is alot of pressure on society as a hole. Just look back at how life was lived in the 1950's. We are a society of "real time" We want to have what our parents have that took all there life to accumulate, right now. I think it is just a result of being spoiled rotten, if they had bigger problems to think about, they wouldn't have time to think about suicide....
