Why is the alien called the Extra-Terrestrial?
There is only 1 of him.
so how is he "Extra"?
if there is more than 1. maybe the other is "extra".

Extraterrestrial means "beyond earth".

Cute. [Actually, at the beginning of the movie, several of his kind were depicted. Those were the extras.] But of course, he is not a terrestrial, so therefore your joke does not actually work. He is called an "extra-terrestrial" because he comes from off earth. Extra is like above, away, other than -- not of earth.

"Terrestrial" would mean "of this earth" the "Extra" indicates that he is from beyond this earth....doesn't mean there are more than you paid for.

He was a stowaway. He was the original "Home Alone" kid. that is why he is extra. they took a head count on the space ship and forgot he was ever on bored. His name was Kevin.
