I recommend that you contact a Veterans Service Officer.
You stated that you are retired, but you did'nt metioned retired from military service, if that is the case then you may be eligiable for some treatment.
However, if you belong to a Veterans Organization, they usually have someone wo may be able to assist you.
If not, you can find a local Veterans Service Officer on the VA's web-site.
Their link is, http://www.va.gov/
Good Luck

If your bad back and /or your knee problems are service connected (it or they had to happen while you were on active duty) and you were not discharged dishonorably, then you should go to your nearest VA Hospital and have them check you out. Apply for benefits with the VA and if they find you eligable then you will not only be entitled to free medical care for those conditions but possibly free or low cost prescriptions for those conditions and maybe even monthly VA benefit checks. If neither of your conditions is service connected then I would find a Chiropractor, have a few xrays done and follow his directions. Good luck and thank you for your service to our Country!

First of all you need to understand that your spine is the only place in your body that will never heal itself. Then you can help yourself by developing the muscles around your back and that is done by strengthing the muscles in your stomach, the tighter they are the more they will hold your spine in the proper position. I hurt my back a long time ago and doing activites to tone up my stomach is what helped my back. As far as your leg goes it sounds as if you have a pinched nerve someplace. Try going to a physical therapist to help that. Sometimes they will try many crazy things until they find one that works for you.
Here is also a couple websites you can look at:

I sure the heck wouldn't go to a chiropracter. Did you know they aren't even a medical doctor? All they need is a degree in chiropractice, but have to take more years of schooling to become a real medical doctor. I wouldn't trust my spine to someone like that. Thats for sure. You could end up paralyzed. At least a physcial therapist only helps with muscle strength and range of motion, but if you want the problem remedied go to a doctor who specializes in spine and lumbar injuries.

Consult a chiropractor. They deal with back pain and other musculoskeletal pains all day long. It's what they're trained to do
