Sure, God only came into the picture with the development of religion. People used to fight over. land, food, each other, etc. As people have evolved so have the reasons to fight. People use God as an excuse to have control over others.

Gangs don't fight over God they fight over territory and who does what in that territory. In the Old West, people fought over land and who owned it. God only got mentioned because the people who wanted the land from the ones who owned it, and won it needed to justify their means of getting control over the land. Mentioning God makes the aggressor feel better and justified. If we say we did something in the name of God, then it covers up the fact that we were just greedly and wanted what someone else had. We use God as an excuse to justify our means.

yes...God is not the "reason" we fight. it is a tool humans use as an Excuse to fight..but not a reason. people try to force others to believe or do the same thing they want, w/o understanding the other person's side. whether it be about sex, politics, education, anything really, not just religion, there will always be conflicts. some worse than others (such as people who do terrorist acts in the name of a God), but i believe it is human weakness that causes fighting, and it is spirituality that allows peace.

There would be no fighting because we would be stupid to the fact that there is a devil, too. Therefore, we would not listen to the demons that tell us to be bad.
