AND WASN'T HE THE 1ST PERSON IN HISTORY TO BE PARDONED BEFORE HE WAS EVER CONVICTED IN A TRIAL? THAT IS CROOKED. BUT, HEY! I AM TALKING ABOUT TYPICAL REPUBLICANISM.

For the same reason that Bush isn't jailed for the well over 800 laws that he's broken. Important figures are never touched. Politicians, musicians, sports stars... they get away with everything.

You already have your answer - he wasn't jailed because he was pardoned. Most people seem to think that was part of the deal with Ford to get the VP slot.

There was a recent case of someone in the music industry having drugs in the mideast and who was pardoned even before the trial. So I would bet that this goes on all the time. I don't think it's limited to Republicans.

He was pardoned by Gerald Ford. And no, he was not the first person ever pardoned before being convicted in a trial.

Gerald Ford pardoned him so that the country could get past what happened and get on with the business of going forward. The worldwide disgrace of having to resign was punishment enough for Richard Nixon. Kenneth Lay, on the other hand, got off really easy!

why ask a question if you are going to answer.......he was indeed pardoned....and no, he is not the first......and the Democrats have pardone before the case also.....however, Ford did it so that he would not have to go through all the trials, and be humiliated.....a disgraceful departure for a president, and that will go with his part in history forever....why put him through more?

I am a Liberal but I must say that most of the country thought that being forced to step down from the Presidency in disgrace was enough punishment for anyone. I was never a fan of his but he was brilliant in foreign policy. His problem was what I think was a disease. He was paranoid to the nth degree. That kind of paranoia is usually treatable by medication but I guess he could never admit that he needed something like that.

Pardon?
He also was the only one who happened to get caught. Please! Democrats can't make a desicion to save their or anyone elses lives and Republicans make decisions that no one likes, so hmmm, maybe no one's right.
Its time to elect the feminie party to office, at least a woman will buy everything on sale.
