Have you signed a lease? Does the lease allow you a cancellation period? Those are important details.

If you haven't signed a lease, you can do whatever you want; if you have signed a lease, you might be on the hook . . .

I'm confused, how do you get "awarded" an apartment. Did the landlord have a say in the process? HOW was he rude and mean? Cover your a s s, if you've already signed a lease or not, BEFORE you move in, take pictures of the joint and document any problems. Make copies and give them to the landlord at the lease signing. Save copies of the photos and the descriptions. That way there's no "his word against yours" when you do vacate. I hope he's not always mean and rude.... :-/

Do you know why the soon-to-be landlord behaved that way toward you? Not enough information to answer this one, I am afraid.

Well, you obviously had to out up a fight in order to be "awarded" the apartment. Why walk away now?
