It is legal to tell employees they cannot open their checks on company property including parking lot. Legal?

They have been told they will be fired if they open their checks either in the building or in the parking lot. Is this legal?

It's their property so I would assume so. It is probably to ensure privacy of pay rates. They don't want anyone having the opportunity to find out what anyone else makes.

It sounds more legal than illegal. I know of people that work in department stores, you've seen them... they must use a clear see through hand bag. So its harder to get away with stealing things.

So on those lines, I guess it would be within an employers rights to make rules that maintain some decorum among all employees.
