As an artist Rick James was a pioneer. His time with George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic helped him hone his creativity. He was a hell of a songwriter. He did sing about some controversial subjects, but they were relevant at the time. He brought a new love for Bass Heavy funk to the masses. He also had incredible showmanship which I again attribute to the days of being a Funkateer.

I loved Rick James the artist! When I was young - in the early 80's - I used to hear his music all the time in the clubs. I had one of his albums (yes, I said "album"), but I can't recall the name of it. It was the one with "Superfreak" and "Give It To Me Baby"...
