and not seeing what you're typing?

Yes. It's called blind typing. Some people turn off their monitor when brainstorming an idea for a term paper. When the monitor is off, you type as much as you can about the subject without stopping or worrying about punctuation. With the monitor off, it allows you to focus on typing instead of grammar and spelling. Give it a try. You'll come up with all kinds of ideas for your next paper or all kinds of topics for which direction your paper can go.

Key inputs are still registered even if there is no monitor present, although you can't see what's going on of course. The same could be said for mouse movements, speakers, microphones, or any other similar peripherals.

You can do everything you would normally do without a monitor. The problem is you can't see what you're doing.

Absolutely. I've set up computers for blind people, and they don't need a monitor. They either use a braile strip, or a speech synthesizer, or both.
