You probably need to look under the Highways Act regarding law pertaining to obstruction of the Queens public highway.

The best source for help, outside of paying a lawyer, is to go to your local county courthouse, in the records section, and look up the respective deeds for the properties in question. Use a highlighter and read carefully every word and look to see if this land is part of a development, and if there are any relevant covenants or restrictions on the property. If you are not familiar with the courthouse, someone will usually help you.
This is a question that comes up a lot and you can spend a lot of time and money trying to resolve the problem. Another approach is try and talk with the landowner. It never hurts to ask, and you will find out instantly if they are friendly or adversarial.
You can also find some good legal guides at NOLO press.
Good Luck

Who owns the property (woods) that you want to go on?
Is the gate across a public road or a private drive?
If it's public, why is there a gate?

If it's a public road -- call the cops because they're breaking the law.

If it's a private road, but NOT owned by the people who locked the gate, you need to contact the property owner.

i don't have a difficulty with unique words in a poem, yet i imagine they prefer to have a sturdy pedigree - and ideally a favor to be there (no different observe will do). i could not see why you used 'verbocrity' (which easily skill 'a foul ability with language'), and that i do not imagine that city Dictionary is a robust source for brand new words besides. (Verbocrity has fewer than a dozen examples of tangible utilization on the internet: this signifies that the interest has not moved previous being sought after slang in basic terms yet). An 'apoplexy' is a 'stroke' (cardiac infarction). The observe can aspect out a in good structure of rage (he replaced into so offended, i presumed he replaced into going to have a stroke) - yet which couldn't its established meaning. I got here upon it right here. The storyline has ability. You created suspense which includes your preliminary image of a homesteader walking lower back to the barn with a shovel (that image may artwork in a movie, it somewhat works in a poem) - yet then the rigidity dissipates as this reader tries to untangle what you're easily preserving from the unusual and frequently unhelpful words you're using. As a time-honored rule: the easier your message, the easier the language you favor. i ask your self may this artwork more suitable useful as a short tale (a microfiction). Freed of the compulsion to rime, you may discover area to grant us more suitable of the pschology (the self-justification) of this low-cost little assassin. The artwork jogged my memory a touch of Nell Leyshon's colour of Milk: yet another doubtlessly thrilling tale which looks to wander off interior the telling indirectly. it really is properly worth remembering that Nell Leyshon's e book has been quite useful. So possibly the project is me.

Is the adjoining road private? Are the woods privately owned? Then they can do whatever they want with their own property. They probably locked it to keep people like you out of their woods.

If the gate is on private property (which is where most gates are) it sounds perfectly legal to me . The only person that I could see complain would be a land owner that has that road as his only access.

If the adjoining road is a public road too the residents can't lock it. Call the police.

If I were you I would look under the government blue pages in your phone directory for the county where you live. It is listed by area and they should have phone numbers you can call in there that deals with laws and land, etc. They should be able to give you an answer to your question. If it ends up being illegal you should report them to have it stopped. You can do this anonymously.

How would anyone on this board know unless we were a real estate attorney, a land-use attorney, or at least a general practice attorney? You give us no county, no state, and you give no information on whether or not there are easements outlined on your deed or your survey.

You need to contact an attorney or your county office to find out what is legal.

Sounds as if you may have an "easement" if this is the only way to get to the woods. Disclaimer: I am not an attorney. You should consult an attorney about this matter.
