So you want to know whether you can run Mac OS X on an intel-based PC.

Officially No.

Apple only allows their Mac operating system OS X to run on Mac hardware (iMac, MacBook etc.). This is in the Mac OS X license agreement.

However, since Apple switched to Intel processors as well, there is no real technical reason why Mac OS X would not be able to run on an intel-based PC, like an IBM one or a Dell or an HP or whatever other brand you can think of.

So, some hackers started the OSx project and developed a hacked version of Mac OS X that they reportedly managed to install on PC's. This is the OSx86 Project.

You can read all about it here: http://osx86project.org/ If you roam the dark corners of the internet, you may be able to find a free osx86 copy of Mac OS X.

But I must say that that hacked OSx86 version of Mac OS X is illegal and that it is a crime to download it, use it or distribute it. Up to you what you want to do with that information.

In addition, even if you get to work... getting the right drivers for your PC peripherals to work correctly in such a hacked version of Mac OS X is a big big challenge.

Easy solution that is more costly but will save you a couple of days of your life (and probably years if you take into account the stress-reduction of getting away from windows will bring, haha) is to buy a mac... you get mac os x with it 'for free.'

There is a program called VMWare, which is basically an emulator on which you install any operation system you like. It then runs in a window and you can use both it and your native OS at the same time. You still need to have a copy of the OS to install though, and there is not legal way to get a free copy of mac os.

You cannot find a free copy of Mac OS X...legally. Surprisingly, Mac OS X is much less expensive than Windows XP is. Now about this emulator...do a Google search and search for emulators. You're bound to find one. Oh, and if you want to use Mac OS X, why not just GET a Mac?

I don't think that you can find a free copy of mac os x that will run on a pc anyway.
Why not just go get a mac, and run windows on it?
