My niece complained bitterly when she was required to write lines as a school punishment. This caused me to recall some of the lines I had to do. I wondered if anyone else has similar unpleasant memories. Such punishments may not be effective, but they seem to be memorable.

In many schools now this is considered cruel and unusual punishment. Just more liberal hog wash.
I don't remember when, but I missed a spelling of one word on three tests. Had to write it 100 times on the board. The stupid word -- "because" Why I couldn't get it I do not know. After 100 times I had it forever.
Very little children handle this word early. Why did you do that! the parent says. "Because," the child replies. The parent then shouts -- Because Why??? The child is actually saying "I be the cause or I am the cause." They are making use of a very advanced concept. At the same time they have no clue about what motivated the terrible infraction they are about to die for.

I had a 4th grade teacher with a last name like Shiapacaski or something like that.
We would be punished by writing things like:
"I will not talk in Mr. Shiapacaski's class"
over and over again. His name was the worst part.

In the fifth grade, if you ever forgot to write your name on your paper, you had to write it five hundred times! It was absolute torture!
And, if you ever turned in something without your name right before recess, the teachers would literally hunt you down on the playground or in the gym and make a huge show about it!
It was awful! Thankfully, I never had to do that once!

Yeah, I remember mine quite clearly. I had to write 300 lines. Here it is: I will not talk in the hall going to and from lunch because it disturbs other classes.
P.S. There wasn't any classes around, it was a gallery!!!!

When I was in second grade I got my shoes dirty at recess. The teacher made me write "I will not play in the mud 75 times (during subsequent recesses.)

Professor Umbridge made me write, "I must not tell lies" with a pen that scratched the words into my skin, over and over.

"I will not write on the girl's bathroom wall." I had to write that one-hundred times. I wrote a boy's phone number on the wall because he scorned me. I was angry.
