Well, since you are inside in your dream, that probably means that you are dealing with an issue inside of yourself (i.e. emotional, personal). The huge black dog represents the problem which is on the outside of your bedroom (which really represents yourself). Is there something you've been very stressed over, that you're trying to not let bring you down? Since the dog is outside and can't get in, I would say this isn't necessarily a bad dream, since it means you are not letting whatever is on the 'outside'(friends, work, school) interfere with what's on the inside (your personal, emotional, psychological health).
Hope this helps :)

Let me analyze the dream
Cats = freedom, Control
Black dog barking = alert, fear, criticism.
You seem to have lost control over some freedom. You are in lack of sense of security of because you are not confident enough in controlling things around you. The cat in your dream signifies some sort of freedom or control you have. However, you often lose control over it. You projected a dog barking as a warning or criticism. You may be criticized at work, family, job which you do not appreciate. And you are afraid to confront it. That is why you have this dream to vent it out.
I could be wrong, but this is how I see from your dream

Truly only you can interpret your dreams. To do this first you must figure out what associations you make with a "cat on your lap" and a dog at the window.
But at a guess, a cat on a lap is a relaxing scene. Dog threatens this.
Could something or someone be disturbing your peace of mind?
Best of luck

Cat
To see a cat in your dream, signifies much misfortune, treachery, and bad luck. However, for the cat lover, cats signifies an independent spirit, feminine sexuality, creativity, and power. If the cat is aggressive, then it suggests that you are having problems with the feminine aspect of yourself. If a cat is biting you, then it symbolizes the devouring female. Perhaps you are taking and taking without giving. You may be expressing some fear or frustration especially when something is not going as planned. If you see a cat with no tail, then it signifies a lost of independence and lack of autonomy.
To dream that you chase the cat away, signifies that you will overcome your obstacles.
To see a white cat in your dream, denotes that you are going through difficult times. If you see a black cat in your dream, then it indicates that you are experiencing some fear in using your psychic abilities and believing in your intuition. You may erroneously associate the black cat with evil, destruction, and bad luck.
Sleeping
To dream that you are sleeping, denotes peace of mind. Alternatively, it may also mean that you are ignorant and not fully aware of the conditions and circumstances around you. If you are sleeping with a stranger, suggests that you are avoiding some issue or situation that is being symbolized by the stranger. Perhaps you are refusing to recognize a negative aspect of yourself.
To see others sleeping, is often a reflection of yourself and your own unconscious mind. It is indicative of how you may not be alert or informed about a particular situation.
Sleeping may also be synonymous with death in that it beckons renewal and new beginnings.
Dog
To see a dog in your dream, indicate a skill that you have ignored or forgotten, but needs to be activated. Alternatively, dogs may symbolize intuition, loyalty, generosity, protection, and fidelity. Your own values and intentions will enable you to go forward in the world and succeed. If the dog is vicious and/or growling, then it signifies some inner conflict within yourself. It may indicate betrayal and untrustworthiness. If the dog is dead or dying, then it indicates a loss of a good friend. Alternatively, it represents a deterioration of your instincts. Also consider common notions associated with the word dog, such as loyalty ("man's best friend") and to be "treated like a dog".
Nightmares
A nightmare is a disturbing dream that causes the dreamer to wake up feeling anxious and frightened. Nightmares may be a response to real life trauma and situations. These type of nightmares fall under a special category called Post-traumatic Stress Nightmare (PSN). Nightmares may also occur because we have ignored or refused to accept a particular life situation. Research shows that most people who have regular nightmares have had a family history of psychiatric problems, bad drug experiences, people who have contemplated suicide, and/or rocky relationships. Nightmares are an indication of a fear that needs to be acknowledged and confronted. It is a way for our subconscious to make up take notice. "Pay attention!"

Hmm, the black hound, eh. There is mythical cryptozoological creature of such significance. It is said to predict doom. It might be a warning. There is even a Sherlock Holmes tale about such a dog. Are the dog's eyes glowing when you see it? Is there any stress in your life? Perhaps something is troubling your subconscious. You should seek out the source of what is troubling your subconscious and deal with it. That's one explanation, buuuuut, whenever someone asks about a dream meaning, I usually just say it means that their gay because it's funnier that way. So...your secretly gay.

Some external force is threatening you/frightening you, but you won't face up to it so instead it's being represented through your dreams. It could be something really minor that you need to figure out. Also make sure there are no branches that scrape your window, because this could be a trigger for the dream.

What are you worried about that is out of your control, that might threaten your lifestyle just now? Have you any concerns about losing your relationship, your job, or something/someone else that is important to you?
To me the dream interprets as you being threatened where you feel safest. So, what deep down is threatening your way of life just now?
